100mm/3.94inch Slotted Grinding Cup Wheel incorporates a slotted turbine grinding tooth design, which exerts multiple positive effects on the bowl grinder's grinding performance.
1. Achieving discontinuous grinding reduces grinding heat. Following slotting, the working surface of the bowl grinder is no longer continuous but becomes a discontinuous grinding edge. When the bowl grinder rotates at high speed, the grinding teeth make intermittent contact with the workpiece. Each interruption allows a brief period for heat dissipation within the grinding zone, while air can more effectively flow into the grinding area for cooling. This significantly reduces temperatures in the grinding zone, which is crucial when grinding materials with poor thermal conductivity or those sensitive to heat. It effectively prevents surface burning, cracking, or changes in the metallographic structure of the workpiece.
2. Improving chip evacuation prevents bowl grinding wheel clogging. Grinding generates substantial swarf. Without grooves, chips readily accumulate at the contact zone between the bowl wheel and workpiece, becoming lodged within the interstitial spaces between abrasive grains and diminishing the wheel's cutting efficiency. The machined grooves serve as temporary chip evacuation channels. Chips can be temporarily accommodated within the grooves or more readily ejected by the wheel's rotation rather than remaining trapped on the grinding surface. This maintains the sharpness of the abrasive grains and significantly enhances the bowl grinding wheel's service life.
3. Enhancing the efficiency of coolant delivery to the grinding zone. During high-speed rotation of the bowl grinder, a layer of air barrier forms on the surface, impeding the effective penetration of coolant into the grinding zone. The grooves disrupt this stable air barrier, agitating the coolant and directing it towards the grinding point. This facilitates more effective lubrication and cooling, thereby improving the surface integrity of the workpiece.
4. Reducing grinding forces and power consumption. As only the tooth surfaces make contact while the grooves remain empty, the contact area diminishes. Consequently, both the radial and tangential grinding forces exerted by the bowl grinder upon the workpiece are reduced. For workpieces with lower rigidity, this reduction in grinding forces effectively minimises deformation and deflection, thereby enhancing machining accuracy. Simultaneously, the spindle's grinding power consumption decreases accordingly, contributing to a smoother cutting process.
